About Massage Therapy
During massage therapy, a trained and certified professional uses varying degrees of pressure and movements on the skin to manipulate the soft tissues on the body that include muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other connecting tissues. It’s considered to be a part of integrative medicine and is increasingly used as a standard treatment for a multitude of medical conditions such as heart diseases, stomach problems, and fibromyalgia. In addition to that, massage therapy is known for its effective treatment for reducing tension in the muscles, alleviating pain, relieving stress, inducing relaxation, promoting faster tissue healing, and nourishing the skin.

Pursuing his passion, Danny has graduated as a massage sports therapist from Mount Royal University. He’s registered with the College of Massage Therapist Association of Alberta and his mission includes helping patients minimize pain to reach a higher level of health and wellness.
Danny has treated a range of ailments from sports-related injuries and postural imbalances to chronic conditions and specific injuries including sprains, strains, tendonitis, headaches, low back or neck spasms. He performs a wide variety of techniques and modalities depending upon the patient’s needs and diagnosis.
The massage therapy procedures offered at Divergent Health include myofascial release, neuromuscular techniques, biomechanics, joint mobilization, trigger-point therapy, deep tissue, and fascial stretching. In addition to that, Divergent Health is one of the very few clinics in Western Canada that offer a highly specialized procedure, RAPID NFR, in Calgary.
Danny has also competed in power-lifting competitions back in 2015 and has treated elite athletes who play a variety of professional sports such as bodybuilding, Olympic weightlifting, and power lifting.

How Does Massage Therapy Work?
Massages cause two major types of physiological changes in the body that not only promote healing but also alleviate pain and reduce stress.
The relaxation response is a state that the body reaches during gentle massages. In this state, your breathing and heart rate slows down, blood pressure decreases, the amount of stress hormones being released by the body decrease, muscles relax, and the production of serotonin—the ‘feel-good’ hormone of the body—increases. With all this combined, the relaxation response has the potential to reduce stress, anxiety, and fatigue. In addition to that, problems in the body caused by psychological and digestive disorders are also reduced.
On the other hand, the mechanical responses of the body during massages cause an increase in lymph and blood circulation. Massages physically manipulate the soft tissues in the body, resulting in proper blood circulation, which helps deliver vital nutrients and oxygen to different parts of the body. Massage therapy also helps relax muscles preventing contractions and muscle spasms. The mechanical response also helps reduce waste products from the body and reduces swelling.
